"It is He who made the earth tame for you - so walk among its slopes and eat of His provision - and to Him is the resurrection."
Surah Al-Mulk · 67:15
Classical scholars interpreted the ability to walk without respiratory distress as a divine blessing, relevant to asthma patients whose exercise capacity is limited by breathlessness.
"And have you seen the water that you drink? Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful?"
Surah Al-Waqi'ah · 56:68-70
Ibn Sina and classical physicians emphasized humidification therapy and pure water intake for drying respiratory conditions like asthma, making this verse's focus on beneficial water medically relevant.
"Allah did not send down any disease but He also sent down the cure for it; those who know it, know it and those who do not know it, do not know it."
Sahih Muslim · 2214SahihNarrator: Abu Huraira
This hadith establishes the theological foundation for seeking treatments for chronic conditions like asthma, which classical physicians actively researched and treated.
"Why do you torture your children by pressing their tonsils? Use this Indian costus (al-'ud al-Hindi), for it contains seven types of cures, including for pleurisy (dhat al-janb)."
Sunan Abi Dawud · 3855HasanNarrator: Umm Qays bint Mihsan
Costus was specifically recommended for respiratory inflammation including pleurisy, and classical physicians extended its use to asthmatic conditions affecting the chest and airways.

Ibn Sina, Al-Qanun fi al-Tibb, Book 3, Fann 9, Chapter on Asthma (Al-Rabw) — Ibn Sina categorizes asthma as arising from cold, moist humors producing thick phlegm that blocks airways, requiring warming expectorants, controlled breathing exercises, and avoidance of cold, damp environments.
Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah · Al-Ṭibb an-Nabawī
Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, At-Tibb an-Nabawi, Chapter on Treatment of Chest Ailments and Respiratory Difficulties (Amrad al-Sadr wa Diq al-Nafas) — He emphasizes costus, fenugreek, and honey as prophetic remedies for opening constricted breathing passages and expelling cold phlegm from the lungs.
