"O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth [that is] lawful and good and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy."
Surah Al-Baqarah · 2:168
This verse emphasizes consuming what is tayyib (wholesome and pure), which directly relates to dietary management in diabetes where food quality and glycemic impact are critical for metabolic control.
"O messengers, eat from the good foods and work righteousness. Indeed, I, of what you do, am Knowing."
Surah Al-Mu'minun · 23:51
The command to eat from tayyibat (good, wholesome foods) establishes a principle of selective nutrition essential for managing insulin resistance and blood glucose levels in Type 2 diabetes.
Sahih Hadith
ما ملأ آدمي وعاء شرا من بطن بحسب ابن آدم أكلات يقمن صلبه فإن كان لا محالة فثلث لطعامه وثلث لشرابه وثلث لنفسه
"No human ever filled a vessel worse than the stomach. Sufficient for any son of Adam are some morsels to keep his back straight. But if it must be, then one third for his food, one third for his drink and one third for his breath."
Sahih Muslim · 2033SahihNarrator: Miqdam ibn Ma'dikarib
This hadith addresses portion control and moderation in eating, which is fundamental to managing Type 2 diabetes through caloric restriction and preventing postprandial hyperglycemia.
"The Messenger of Allah came to visit me along with Ali, and Ali was recovering from illness. We had some dates hanging. The Messenger began to eat and Ali also began to eat. The Prophet said to Ali: 'Stop, for you are recovering.' Ali stopped. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I shall prepare for you some Swiss chard and barley.' The Prophet said: 'O Ali, eat from this, for it is more suitable for you.'"
Sunan Abi Dawud · 3857HasanNarrator: Umm al-Mundhir
This hadith demonstrates prophetic guidance on choosing barley (sha'ir) over simple sugars for those with metabolic concerns, as barley has a lower glycemic index beneficial for diabetic patients.
