Exhaustive Revelation

Quran

"Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire."

Surah An-Nur · 24:35

References the blessed olive tree whose oil has been used traditionally as a topical emollient for dry skin conditions in Islamic medicine.

"And [We brought forth] a tree issuing from Mount Sinai which produces oil and food for those who eat."

Surah Al-Mu'minun · 23:20

Direct reference to olive oil's dual nature as both nourishment and therapeutic agent, specifically noting its oil (duhun) which classical physicians prescribed topically for skin dryness.

Sahih Hadith

"Eat olive oil and anoint yourselves with it, for it is from a blessed tree."

Jami at-Tirmidhi · 1851HasanNarrator: Abu Hurayrah

Prophet Muhammad specifically commanded anointing (topical application) with olive oil, a primary classical treatment for skin dryness and xerosis.

"Consume olive oil and apply it (to your bodies), for it comes from a blessed tree."

Sunan Ibn Majah · 3448HasanNarrator: Abu Asid

Reinforces the prophetic prescription of external application (anointing) of olive oil for skin health and treatment of dryness.

Classical Medical Sources

Ibn Sina, Al-Qanun fi al-Tibb, Book 3, Fann 14 (Treatise on Skin Diseases), Chapter on Dryness and Roughness of Skin (Jafaf wa Khushunah al-Jild) — describes xerosis as an imbalance of moisture temperament requiring external application of oils with warm, moist qualities, particularly olive oil, sweet almond oil, and preparations containing mucilaginous substances from linseed and marshmallow root.

Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah · Al-Ṭibb an-Nabawī

Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, At-Tibb an-Nabawi, Chapter on The Benefits of Olive Oil (Fawa'id az-Zayt) — emphasizes the Prophet's command to anoint with olive oil for maintaining skin moisture and treating dryness, noting its balanced temperament and penetrating properties that restore natural skin oils without causing heat or inflammation.
