Commands consumption of wholesome (tayyib) foods, directly relevant to hypertension management which requires dietary restriction of excess salt and harmful processed foods.
"O you who have believed, do not prohibit the good things which Allah has made lawful to you and do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like transgressors. And eat of what Allah has provided for you [which is] lawful and good. And fear Allah, in whom you are believers."
Surah Al-Ma'idah · 5:87-88
Prohibits dietary excess (i'tida'), a key factor in hypertension pathogenesis through overconsumption of sodium and calorie-dense foods.
"No human ever filled a vessel worse than the stomach. Sufficient for any son of Adam are some morsels to keep his back straight. But if it must be, then one third for his food, one third for his drink and one third for his breath."
Sahih Muslim · 2033SahihNarrator: Abu Huraira
Overeating directly increases blood volume and vascular resistance, making this hadith central to hypertension prevention through portion control and weight management.
"The Messenger of Allah came to me and Ali was with him. Ali was recovering from illness. We had bunches of dates hanging. The Messenger of Allah began to eat and Ali began to eat. The Messenger of Allah said to Ali: 'Stop, stop! You are recovering from illness.'"
