"And We sent down from the sky water in measure and settled it in the earth. And indeed, We are Able to take it away. And We brought forth for you thereby gardens of palm trees and grapevines in which for you are abundant fruits and from which you eat. And [We brought forth] a tree issuing from Mount Sinai which produces oil and food for those who eat."
Surah Al-Mu'minun · 23:18-20
References olive oil from the blessed tree which strengthens intestinal membranes and provides protective coating for damaged gut lining through its fatty acid content.
"Then let mankind look at his food - How We poured down water in torrents, Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], And caused to grow within it grain and grapes and herbage and olive and palm trees and gardens of dense shrubbery and fruit and grass - [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock."
Surah Abasa · 80:24-32
Emphasizes contemplation of food choices relevant to intestinal health, listing grain varieties and specific foods that classical scholars linked to intestinal membrane integrity and proper digestion.
Sahih Hadith
"The Messenger of Allah entered upon me, and with him was Ali who was recovering from illness. We had some bunches of dates hanging, and the Messenger of Allah began to eat from them and Ali began to eat. The Messenger of Allah said to Ali: 'Stop! You are recovering from illness.' So Ali stopped. She said: 'Then I made them Swiss chard and barley.' The Messenger of Allah said: 'O Ali, eat from this, for it is more suitable for you.'"
Sunan Ibn Majah · 3457HasanNarrator: Umm Mundhir
Demonstrates prophetic guidance on specific foods for weakened intestinal conditions, prescribing barley and chard which soothe inflamed gut membranes while restricting dates during intestinal vulnerability.
"She said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the children of Ja'far are quickly afflicted. Shall I use a protective charm for them?' He said: 'Yes, for if anything could overtake the Divine Decree, it would be the evil eye.'"
Sunan Abi Dawud · 3855SahihNarrator: Asma bint Umays
Addresses the concept of afflictions that penetrate protective barriers, relevant to understanding how intestinal barrier function may be compromised and require spiritual and physical remediation.
