Exhaustive Revelation

Quran

"And spend in the way of Allah and do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into destruction [by refraining]. And do good; indeed, Allah loves the doers of good."

Surah Al-Baqarah · 2:195

This verse establishes the principle that believers must not allow their bodies to fall into destruction through neglect, which includes maintaining bodily strength and resistance against diseases.

"O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth [that is] lawful and good and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy."

Surah Al-Baqarah · 2:168

Emphasizes consuming tayyib (wholesome, pure) foods which classical scholars linked to maintaining the body's innate heat and natural defenses against disease.

Sahih Hadith

"The son of Adam does not fill any vessel worse than his stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Adam to eat a few mouthfuls to keep him alive. If he must fill it, then one-third for his food, one-third for his drink, and one-third for air."

Jami at-Tirmidhi · 2038HasanNarrator: Abu Hurairah

Overeating weakens the body's innate heat and corrupts humoral balance, leading to accumulation of superfluities that impair the immune faculty according to classical Galenic-Islamic medicine.

"Use Indian costus (al-qust al-hindi), for it contains seven types of cures, including for pleurisy."

Sunan Ibn Majah · 3457HasanNarrator: Anas ibn Malik

Costus was used prophetically for strengthening bodily resistance and treating recurrent inflammatory conditions affecting the respiratory system and general weakness.

"For every disease there is a cure, and when the cure for a disease is applied, it is cured with the permission of Allah, the Exalted."

Sahih Muslim · 2218SahihNarrator: Jabir ibn Abdullah

This hadith establishes the prophetic principle that recurrent infections are treatable when proper remedies are identified, encouraging active treatment rather than resignation to weakness.

Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah · Al-Ṭibb an-Nabawī

Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, At-Tibb an-Nabawi, Chapter on Strengthening the Body's Nature and Preservation from Diseases - emphasizes prophetic moderation in eating, use of warming spices and foods, and specific remedies like costus and talbina to restore innate heat and expel corrupt humors that weaken natural defenses.
