Exhaustive Revelation

Quran

كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌ

"As if they were alarmed donkeys"

Surah Al-Muddaththir · 74:51

Classical exegetes note this verse describes wild donkeys fleeing with heads raised and necks strained, used by early physicians as metaphor for muscular tension in the cervical region during states of fear and physical strain.

فَطَفِقَ مَسْحًا بِالسُّوقِ وَالْأَعْنَاقِ

"And he began striking [their] legs and necks"

Surah Sad · Classical commentators discuss the anatomical significance of neck (a'naq) as a site requiring therapeutic touch and manipulation, informing early Islamic manual therapy traditions for cervical ailments.

Sahih Hadith

لِكُلِّ دَاءٍ دَوَاءٌ فَإِذَا أُصِيبَ دَوَاءُ الدَّاءِ بَرَأَ بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

"For every disease there is a cure, and when the proper cure for a disease is applied, it is cured with the permission of Allah, the Exalted and Glorious"

Sahih Muslim · 2205SahihNarrator: Jabir ibn Abdullah

Ibn Sina and later Islamic physicians cite this hadith specifically in chapters on musculoskeletal pain to encourage seeking appropriate therapeutic interventions including cupping and manipulation for neck ailments.

إِنَّ أَمْثَلَ مَا تَدَاوَيْتُمْ بِهِ الْحِجَامَةُ

"The best among the remedies which you use is cupping (hijamah)"

Sunan Abi Dawud · 3863HasanNarrator: Anas ibn Malik

Classical texts specifically recommend hijamah on cervical points (kahil area between shoulders and base of neck) for treating neck pain and stiffness, making this hadith directly applicable to cervical disorders.

Classical Medical Sources

Ibn Sīnā · Al-Qānūn fī al-Ṭibb

Ibn Sina, Al-Qanun fi al-Tibb, Book 3, Fann 1, Chapter on Diseases of the Neck and Nape (Amrad al-Raqabah wa al-Qafa) — Ibn Sina attributes neck pain to cold temperament settling in cervical muscles and nerves, recommending warming oils, gentle manipulation, cupping at kahil point, and compound medications containing ginger and costus to restore warmth and mobility.

Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah · Al-Ṭibb an-Nabawī

Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, At-Tibb an-Nabawi, Chapter on Cupping (Al-Hijamah) and its Benefits — Ibn al-Qayyim emphasizes prophetic cupping at the kahil (upper back/neck junction) as the primary treatment for neck stiffness and pain, noting it draws out cold humors and restores natural movement to the cervical region.
