Exhaustive Revelation

Quran

"Mothers may breastfeed their children two complete years for whoever wishes to complete the nursing [period]. Upon the father is the mothers' provision and their clothing according to what is acceptable."

Surah Al-Baqarah · 2:233

This verse establishes the nutritional and physical care rights of nursing mothers, indicating divine recognition of the special nutritional needs during and after pregnancy.

"And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and his gestation and weaning [period] is thirty months."

Surah Al-Ahqaf · 46:15

This verse acknowledges the physical burden and hardship (kurh) of pregnancy, validating the need for special care, rest, and support during this demanding period.

"And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years."

Surah Luqman · 31:14

This verse describes pregnancy as causing progressive weakness (wahn) upon the mother, indicating the necessity for nutritional support and strengthening remedies during gestation.

Sahih Hadith

"A woman said to the Prophet (peace be upon him): 'I want to perform Hajj and my husband wants me to go with him.' He said: 'Enter ihram, and if something happens to you (an obstacle prevents you), say: O Allah, I will leave ihram wherever You detain me.'"

Sunan Abi Dawud · 2282SahihNarrator: Muadh ibn Jabal

This hadith demonstrates the Prophet's recognition that pregnancy complications may arise, permitting flexibility in religious obligations for pregnant women's wellbeing.

"The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Allah has relieved the traveler of fasting and half of the prayer, and He has relieved the pregnant woman and the nursing mother of fasting.'"

Sahih Muslim · 1145SahihNarrator: Anas ibn Malik

This hadith establishes the prophetic exemption of pregnant women from fasting, recognizing their increased nutritional needs and the importance of continuous nourishment during pregnancy.
