"She said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) asked me, 'What do you use as a laxative?' I said, 'Shubrum.' He said, 'Hot, hot.' I said, 'Then I used senna.' He said, 'If anything could prevent death, it would be senna.'"

Senna was prescribed by classical physicians including Ibn Sina for purging excessive phlegm and yellow bile that accumulate in throat infections causing tonsillitis.
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم دَخَلَ عَلَى أُمِّ السَّائِبِ فَقَالَ مَا لَكِ يَا أُمَّ السَّائِبِ تُزَفْزِفِينَ قَالَتِ الْحُمَّى لاَ بَارَكَ اللَّهُ فِيهَا فَقَالَ لاَ تَسُبِّي الْحُمَّى فَإِنَّهَا تُذْهِبُ خَطَايَا بَنِي آدَمَ كَمَا يُذْهِبُ الْكِيرُ خَبَثَ الْحَدِيدِ
"The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) visited Umm al-Sa'ib and said, 'What is wrong with you, O Umm al-Sa'ib, that you are shivering?' She said, 'Fever, may Allah not bless it.' He said, 'Do not curse fever, for it removes the sins of the children of Adam as the bellows remove impurity from iron.'"

Prophetic Pharmacy
Costus (Indian or Marine)
القسط الهندي أو البحري
Preparation: Ground costus root mixed with olive oil, applied as a throat paste externally on the neck area over the tonsils, or small amount (half teaspoon) mixed with warm water for gargling
Duration: Three times daily until throat inflammation subsides, typically 5-7 days
