"And We have sent down rain from the sky in a measured amount and settled it in the earth. And indeed, We are Able to take it away."
Surah Al-Mu'minun · 23:18
Classical scholars applied this verse to the balance of moisture in the body's cavities, including the sinuses, where excess or deficient moisture causes inflammation and blockage.
"So observe the effects of the mercy of Allah - how He gives life to the earth after its lifelessness. Indeed, that [same one] will give life to the dead, and He is over all things competent."
Surah Ar-Rum · 30:50
Ibn Sina referenced this principle when discussing the restoration of blocked air passages and reviving the function of congested nasal cavities through proper humoral balance.
Sahih Hadith
"She brought her son to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who had not yet eaten food, and she had treated him for tonsillitis. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Why do you torture your children with this pressing? Use this Indian costus, for it contains seven cures, among them pleurisy. It is administered as a nasal drop for throat ailments and taken orally for pleurisy.'"
Sunan Abi Dawud · 3857HasanNarrator: Umm Qays bint Mihsan
The Prophet ﷺ specifically prescribed costus as nasal drops (su'ut) for upper respiratory conditions affecting the throat and nasal passages, the anatomical region affected by sinusitis.
"I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: 'If there is any good in your medicines, it is in the incision of the cupper, or a drink of honey, or cauterization with fire that suits the ailment, but I do not like to be cauterized.'"
Sahih Muslim · 2214SahihNarrator: Jabir ibn Abdullah
Ibn al-Qayyim applied honey specifically for sinusitis due to its ability to draw out thick phlegm from the nasal cavities and its antimicrobial properties against nasal cavity infections.
